Christians - The New Endangered Species Posted: August
19, 2002 © 2002 Contender Ministries I’m an endangered species. I’m also in good company. If you want to know what it’s like to be an endangered species, all you have to do is ask any evangelical Christian living in the United States. We are hunted and harassed daily by the cruelest, most despicable poachers around – the politically correct thought police. Our hides are coveted, and these poachers drool at the thought of mounting one of our heads on their wall. The only way to avoid detection by these bloodthirsty hunters is to compromise our beliefs, or at least keep quiet about them. Any of us who dare speak out, dare to call a spade a spade, are instantly targeted. Just ask the game de jour, Reverend Franklin Graham. Graham has caused a lot of grumbling among the Islamic community by daring to criticize Islam. Apparently, Muslims are allowed to adhere to the fundamentals of their religion, but Christians are not. As a Christian, Graham obviously has the gall to believe the words of Jesus as recorded in John 14:6, when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me.” Ibrahim Hooper, national communications director for the Council on Arab-Islamic Relations, took exception with Graham’s belief. "He [Graham] says nobody goes to heaven unless they accept his lord and Jesus Christ. ... Tell me, how is this tolerant? What he's saying is, at best, ignorant, and at its worst, it's hypocritical," Hooper said. We’ve got news for you, Mr. Hooper – what Graham said is in the Bible. It’s a deeply held religious belief. Hooper must define ‘tolerance’ as the practice of converting to Islam instead of criticizing it. Perhaps Mr. Hooper should spend less time on cable news networks, whining because someone had the audacity to mention that all the 9/11 hijackers were Muslim, and more time studying the Qur’an and Hadith, in which the practice of jihad against “infidels” (Jews and Christians) is fully supported and encouraged. Hooper is by no means the only one spouting such rubbish. Thought police spokesmen can be found on any network, any day, criticizing those who criticize Islam. When 19 Baptists hijack airlines loaded with fuel and Arab passengers, and fly them into Mecca, I’m sure I’ll hear about it on the news. If there is ever a rash of Presbyterians strapping explosives around their midsections and detonating themselves in crowded Arab sooqs, I’ll bet Reverend Graham will be the first to criticize and condemn such actions. Michael Newdow, the notorious “pledge dad,” who manipulated his Christian daughter in order to launch a legal attack on the Pledge of Allegiance, had filed a lawsuit against President Bush back in 2001. He filed that lawsuit because Franklin Graham had the nerve to pray in the name of Jesus at the presidential inauguration! Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, in an op-ed piece for the Los Angeles Times, said, “Billy Graham's son, the man selected by President George W. Bush to bless his presidency, excluded the tens of millions of Americans who are Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, Unitarians, agnostics and atheists from his blessing by his particularistic and parochial language.” I’ll say it again, and I’ll write s-l-o-w-l-y for the sake of Newdow and Dershowitz – Graham is a Christian!! How else is he supposed to pray?!
While the hunting continues, the hunters have no qualms with excluding
evangelical Christians. Nobody is overly concerned about offending us! Yet
if we dare to be vocal about our beliefs, we’re considered to be “divisive,
intolerant” scum. Our nation has slid down a long, slimy slope since George
Washington said in his farewell address, “Of all the dispositions and
habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are
indispensable supports…”
