Muslims Completely Accept Christians? - 01/12/2004
To Whom This May Concern:
Do you know where I can find statistics on the Muslim religion versus the Christian religion? What I mean by that, is for instance, my brother in law says that there are more Muslim converts than Christian. He is also persisting that the Muslim religion COMPLETELY accepts the Christian religion, which I believe to be a lie. I know for a fact that his mother and father in law will not even meet with our side of the family because
we are Christian. He is always coming against the Christian, and I just don't know how to fight back.
My husband's sister is also dating a Muslim. My husband and I are in a spiritual warfare right now. Although, his brother converted because he always converts to be whatever his girlfriend at the time is (now he is married). But, my sister in law is fighting with her boyfriend because she is not quite the believer that my husband and I are, but she is trying. The man she is dating is an Indian Muslim. He, of course, was born and raised Muslim. My brother in law's wife is from Bosnia. The
funniest part is my husband and his family are from Cuba, where Atheism is more accepted than anything. My husband was saved in the Assembly of God in Havana. As for me, my family is from the south, the Bible belt if you will. I was raised with Pentecostal beliefs and will die that way. I don't want to fight with all of these people, but I need facts, and I
don't know where to get them.
Thank you for listening, and any help will be appreciated.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi Michelle. Thanks for writing to Contender Ministries. You can find a breakdown on the number of adherants of various religions here: http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html. While Islam is growing fast, their numbers are increasing more by birth than by conversion. That's an important point that should be noted.
It is true that portions of the Qur'an teach Muslims to respect "people of the book" (Christians and Jews). Yet portions of the Qur'an written later tell Muslims to not take Christians or Jews as friends, and indeed preach violence against us. You can see some of these Qur'anic verses here: http://www.contenderministries.org/islam/naskh.php. This article also explains why the later portions supercede the earlier portions that speak of peace. Your brother-in-law could accurately state that at one time Muhammad preached peace towards Christians, but Muhammad later changed his mind, and that is well documented. That is why, in countries whose laws are based on Islamic law, it is a crime punishable by death to convert from Islam to Christianity.
You said you "don't know how to fight back." Well, primarily, we pray and let the Holy Spirit fight that battle. Yet we must also commit to a study of the Bible, as well as become aware of Islamic beliefs, so God can use us as effective witnesses for Him. It is not as important to discuss the numbers of adherents or converts as it is to discuss the differences between the false god of Islam and the true God of the Bible. Couple that with prayer, and you'll contend well. May the Lord bless you and strengthen you as you do so.
