Could Obama be the Antichrist? - 07/25/2008

What is your opinion of Barack Obama? [We can] see definite comparisons between him and the Antichrist. God help America if he gets elected. We are sure praying for that not to happen. God's richest blessings.

CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:

Scott and Becky, you are not the first people to write to us with this theory. Obama is certainly charismatic and seems to have the media in love with him.   However, if we take a look at the Scriptural references to Antichrist, we can see that Obama misses out on a key requirement.  When we take a look at Daniel Chapter 2, when Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar's dream, we find out that the feet of iron and clay represents a kingdom that will arise and be destroyed by God in the last days.  Part of the feet are iron, much like the iron legs which represented the Roman Empire of old.  Scholars believe the feet of iron and clay represent what will be a revived Roman Empire.  In Daniel 7, Daniel dreamed of four beasts, and the fourth beast also represents the fourth kingdom, much like the feet of iron and clay in chapter 2.  This beast had ten horns - kings - and a small horn rose up from the midst of the ten and destroyed three of the other horns.  This small horn represents the Antichrist when you read all of chapter 7.  The ten horns are repeated in Revelation 13 which speaks of Antichrist.  In Daniel 9, you can find more information on this.  In verse 9:25 we find that from the time of the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the Anointed One (Messiah) comes, there will be 7 "sevens" and 62 "sevens".  After 62 "sevens" (483 years), Daniel says that the Anointed one will be cut off and have nothing.  This prophecy was fulfilled with the crucifixion of Jesus exactly 483 years after the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple.  Then we find that after Christ's death and resurrection, "the people of the ruler who will come" will destroy the city and the sanctuary.  This was fulfilled in A.D. 70 when the Roman Empire - under Titus - destroyed Jerusalem and the "sanctuary" (temple) within.  The "ruler who will come" is Antichrist.  The people of the ruler who will come - who destroyed Jerusalem in A.D. 70 - are the people of the Roman Empire. So with the vision of the little horn arising from the 10 horns of the revived Roman Empire along with this evidence from Daniel 9, it's clear that Antichrist will come from the Revived Roman Empire - Europe, essentially.  I inserted a link earlier in this email to an article Jen wrote supporting the idea of the European Union as the revived Roman Empire.  Antichrist will come from there.  But by the time he is recognizable as Antichrist, we'll have been raptured.  If you want to read a good book that will explore more indepth the revived Roman Empire and information about Antichrist and other aspects of the end times, I suggest reading It Could Happen Tomorrow, by Dr. Gary Frazier.  It just came out and really does an excellent job of covering these topics.  I hope this helps explain things.  God bless!
