Torn between Theosophical Society and Christianity - 11/29/2003

Thank you for your web-site! I have been grappling with myself concerning my membership in the theosophical Society and my own Christianity. I believe the Spirit has been strongly at work within me. I had prayed so hard to the Father and the Son prior to finding your web-site that I know the Godhead was present. It is so hard to pull away from the Society and its teachings as they appeal to reason and the intellectual side of my nature. I seem to have a proclivity to find spirituality in the wrong places. Prior to the above Society I was a member in the Worldwide church of God (Mr. Armstrong ) and was sadly dis-illusioned upon finding it was not the Truth. It is hard for me to return to Church as the teachings seem so shallow compared with the above. Plus the deceptions, I have also reached your site as I was about to start on the Arcane School teachings of Alice Bailey, the Lucis Trust. But as I started to do the meditations, the Lord Jesus Christ started to convict me as well as making me question the Theosophical Society's teaching on forgiveness, therefore grace and redemption etc. I would welcome any advice and help your are able to extend to me as I am in confusion, and in tears,

Hi Glenys. Thanks for writing to us, and I'm sorry it took so long for us to respond. Praise God that you are realizing that the ultimate truth is not found in the teachings of Alice Bailey or the Theosophical Society. Glenys, if you read the Bible and ignore outside influences, you will find that the gospel is not devoid of appeal to intellectuals. Educated and intellectual people can feed off the Word of God as much as anyone else. What stands in our way of that is when we develop pride in our own intelligence. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 says,

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength."

This text illustrates two points. First, God is much smarter than any of us. Therefore, His Word is necessarily full of wisdom and truth. Second, when we are puffed up by our own intelligence, then our intelligence will be "frustrated" and "confounded." Alice Bailey and the Theosophical society teach a wisdom of men. They teach a false spirituality that denies the source of all truth. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says,

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."

You spoke of difficulty returning to "the Church" because its teachings seem so shallow. I am going to ask you to return to Christ first, and His body (the church) second. When the Holy Spirit is at work in your life, you will see that the teachings of the Word of God are anything but shallow. Those in the Theosophical Society are being deceived. Remember that the first name of the Lucis Trust was the "Lucifer Trust", and Lucifer is one name by which Satan is known. Alice Bailey was a pawn of Satan and demons. Her Tibetan Master "Dwaj Khul" I believe to be a demonic apparition.

So Glenys, remember the story of the prodigal son. God is like that Father. He does not hold grudges, and you will not find Him to be distant. He simply wants you to approach Him with humility and repentance, and He will run to you and take you in His eternal loving arms! You are in our prayers, Glenys. Take that first step.

In Christ,

Ben and Jennifer Rast
