God Does Not Change (eternal progression) - 05/15/2005

To who this may concern:

I like this site alot, seeeing that you provide good evidence for
things. I was just wondering, but where in the Bible does God say he
never changes? I think I know there is a verse about it, and a friend
of mine denies that there is one. Thanks.

CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:

Hi Izzy.  There are indeed some verses in the Bible that indicate God does not change.  Here are just a few:

Malachi 3:6 "I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed."
James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

There are several others as well.  I'm wondering if your friend might be LDS.  It's typically the LDS who raise this question.  If that's the case, there are several verses in the Book of Mormon that say that God has never changed, but has always been God.  Now we do not believe the Book of Mormon to be Scripture, but this is a clear biblical teaching found in the book of Mormon that is contradicted in official LDS doctrine.  If your friend is LDS, and you'd like those quotes as well, let us know.  God bless!

In Christ,
