Witnessing to a Hindu Friend - 12/13/2008
Dear Contender Ministries,
I must first
congratulate you on a wonderful, informative website. For one, it
has satisfied my curiosity regarding evolution. I am a re-born
Christian and believe many other questions I might have about certain
things I don't understand in this world, will be answered one day in
heaven. For now, the most important fact is that I have accepted
Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.
This is where my need
for some advice comes in. My best friend is a devout Hindu. I have
tried a number of ways to explain Christianity and the absolute truth
to her, hoping it would plant a seed for her own salvation. However,
she sticks to her own beliefs. How would you suggest I approach the
subject in future?
Yours in Christ,
Tanya
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE: Hi Tanya. Thanks for writing, and we're so glad the site was helpful
to you. If you'd like more information on the evolution debate, I can
make a couple of suggestions that might help you further understand
just how much support their is in science for the Truth of the Bible's
account of our origins. These will also further explaining the
problems with the theory of evolution. One suggestion would be to
watch Ben Stein's new documentary "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed".
It's an excellent documentary that just came out on DVD. It's will
help you understand how the education system and some scientists have
managed to monopolize the debate and distort the evidence that is
presented to students, and the general public via the Media. Another
suggestion would be to read the book "I
Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist", or "The
Case for a Creator". Both of them make an excellent case against
evolution, and present the reasons Biblical creationism is the only
scientifically possible answer for our existence in this universe.
Another website you can also check out is the Institute for Creation Research. I'm
glad you're researching these things. It's so important for us to be
able to defend our faith, and give an answer for the hope that we
have. The more Christians that know these answers, the better. It
will help destroy the myth that Christianity and science are not
compatible.
As far as your Hindu friend goes, it sounds like you are doing just the
right thing. Sometimes all we can do is share the Truth in love, and
then pray that God will water the seed we just planted. I would just
suggest that you be sure to pray for her every day. It is really God
who will do the work in her heart, so lifting her up in prayer is very
important. If you need more information on Hinduism, we do have a
section on our site that covers Hinduism. If you haven't looked there
already, you can find it here.
Also, if she hasn't already, do you think she would be willing to read
the Bible? I would encourage her to read the New Testament with an
open mind, and just see what she thinks. The Word of God is very
powerful, and it's the best way to open the door for God to speak to
her heart. If you think reading the whole New Testament would be
daunting to her, perhaps you could just ask her to read the 4 gospels,
and then see if she wants to read more. Let us know if you need
anything else, and I'll be praying for you and your friend. God bless
you for your commitment to spreading the gospel!
In Him,
Jennifer Rast
