YOU are the heretics! - 02/26/2003
After reading your little section on Catholicism, I felt the need to respond. You claim the church is un-Biblical, this and that, but you forget who put together the Bible...the Catholic Church. True it was divinely inspired, but put together by man. It was NEVER meant to be a blueprint of the church, the traditions of the church predate any Official New Testament. You ignore the historical basis of Christianity. Your, and all brands of Protestantism, are based on countless heresies. All of these heresies eventuall faded away, for their lack of recognition of history. The Catholic Church, however, has lasted 2000 years, and was directly founded by Christ. Think about this, do you really want to be part of something that has it's days numbered? Or do you want to be part of something holy and timeless.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi Matthew! Thanks for contacting Contender Ministries. I'm sorry it's taken so long to reply to your email. I must address a few of the points you brought up. The traditions of the Catholic church that we find to be heresy began in the third and fourth century - not predating the New Testament. We don't ignore the historical basis of Christianity -- we focus on it. Jesus Christ alone is the basis for Christianity. It is His word we spread - not the words and traditions of men. The Catholic Church, as such, was not around until the third and fourth century A.D., so I fail to see how Christ could have founded it. And while I am more than happy to engage in a spirited debate with you on your allegations, we need to have some intellectual integrity here. Every point we brought up in our section on Catholicism we were specific about, and provided a foundation for them. You said that Protestantism is based on "countless heresies." Name some of them, please. Unless you do, we cannot have an honest discussion. Without being specific, you are not being intellectually honest. I look forward to hearing back from you.
