Homosexuality Not A Choice - 05/10/2003
I am not homosexual, but I have friends that are. Homosexuals do not choose to be the way that they are. It is a feeling that they have. If your parents were racist and you fell in love with a black man'woman would you give them up just because it will not be accepted? Unless you are a total coward, I think not!
If you knew a man that went from homesexual to heterosexual, he was either very confused or he was a coward that couldn't deal with the harassment that he recieved and settled for a woman that he didn't love at first.
Personally I think that if it makes them happy and they aren't hurting anyone else, then get off of their backs! They don't call us wrong for being heterosexual so get over it. I don't see heterosexuals being beaten half to death, so until that happens you have no idea what you are talking about, and I think you should talk to a few more homosexuals before you say that it is a choice and therefore a sin. If they had a choice they probably WOULD choose to be heterosexual because of people like you ,who tell them that they are going to Hell because they are, the way that they are.
CONTENDER MINISTRIES RESPONSE:
Hi. Thanks for contacting Contender Ministries. I would like to address two different issues in your email. First, homosexuality is a choice. Much research has been done to try to find a biological cause, but none has been found. I just received an email from a former homosexual who changed after accepting the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. I encourage you to check out the website of Stephen Bennett Ministries. Bennett has a good message as a former homosexual who might just bely your prejudiced view of him as a "coward." One cannot draw a parallel between condemning someone based on their race (not a choice) and judging the practice of homosexuality. Christians do not hate homosexuals, but we do condemn their choice of lifestyle as sinful. That brings us to my second point.
You probably believe in absolute truth -- in certain instances. I'm sure that if I told you that the physical force of inertia acts upon a moving object, you would agree with me, even though you haven't "seen" inertia. If I told you that gravity acts upon any object with mass, you would likely agree with me on that point also -- even though you haven't "seen" gravity. You would agree with me because, while you haven't seen those forces, you HAVE felt them. If I told you that there are spiritual laws that are no less real than physical laws, you might start to waffle on that. I could tell you that there is one almight God, the creater of the universe, who loves you. I could tell you that because man CHOSE to be sinful, in spite of the consequence of sin (hell), God took on the form of man and paid the consequence for us all. All we have to do is place our faith in Jesus and serve him with our lives, and we can spend an eternity in Heaven. Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." That's the choice. I could share these truths with you that are no less true than inertia and gravity, and you would have trouble accepting that. Why? Because you haven't felt Him act upon your life. Well, the fact is that truth does not change depending on your belief or disbelief. God will not cease to exist because you do not believe in Him, and Jesus will not cease to be the only path to Heaven because you don't believe in Him. God has told us in the Bible that homosexuality is a sin. I believe Him.
When we condemn homosexuality, it is not because we hate homosexuals. It is not even because we happen to find the practice of homosexuality to be personally distasteful. We condemn homosexuality because we desire for all people to come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. We want Heaven to be full. We don't wish hell on anyone. You may consider this to be judgmental, but it is, in actuality, an act of love. There are some who have perverted God's message, and they will use God as an excuse to vent a sinful, reprehensible HATE against homosexuals. However, God wants us to hate SIN, but love the sinner. As long as people choose to live sinful lifestyles (whether homosexual in nature or marked by some other sin), we will continue to push the truth of the love and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that He will minister to your heart.
With love in Christ,
Ben and Jennifer Rast
